04/05: A note about Team Work
Hello, Negomedia Members and friends
I just read a message from a good friend talking about our Family and Team business approach. In summary, his comment was that he liked our view but he was rather a loner.
This message left me wondering about this whole Online Business concept. I know for certain that it is a great, actually amazing, resource for the regular guy to do business. The Internet allows anyone to build a nice income without the investment, expenses, sacrifices and efforts needed to run a business off line.
In fact, MLM itself is a good resource for people to be able to do a business. I would say it is the only way by which almost anyone can start a business. It is a very well conceived model. But it can be expensive! People need to invest not so small amounts to actually build an MLM business off line. It is nothing near the investment needed to start an independent business, but certainly high enough to leave many out.
When you take the MLM concept to the Internet, mix it with the great resource of cheap worldwide communications, the result is amazing. It is allowing almost any person to start a business and build an income for years to come at an incredibly low cost (moneywise speaking).
If this is so good... why do so many FAIL?
It is hard enough to do business as a team, but to do it by oneself these days is getting almost impossible. The Internet has turned into a very competitive environment to work. There is no exaggeration in the figures showing a more than 90% failure rate.
If you take a closer look at the "successful" or "hot" programs, you will notice that the only ones making money are the owners. You will also notice that the same 30 guys are launching and lunching and launching new "hot" programs all the time.
Why? Because they have thousands of members doing the work for them, very few members actually paying the fees (the "Free" syndrome) and very high rotation rates. With the few paying members, among thousands, the owners actually make a nice income, some of the top members make a profit and most members make pennies or nothing.
Negomedia is turning the model around and we are being successful. It is not easy or fast, but it is certainly working!

This piece of business wisdom is to be found in the book "Guerrilla Marketing Excellence" by Jay Conrad Levinson. It is an essential rule for small business success, and it fits particularly well to the kind of Online Business we are involved with.
Have you ever wondered why 95% or so of people seeking to make money from the Internet actually fail? I am sure you have! And I am sure you want to be within the remaining and privileged 5% that actually succeed. I believe the main reason why so many fail and so few are successful is because most people skip Golden Rule #1.

First of all, to be successful you need to love what you do. "Making Money" is not really a passion, it is the consequence of a job well done, a job done with passion. Why do I say this? * You decide that this one was a scam and join the new "hot" opportunity you just found. How silly to fall for the previous scam, this one is really "hot"!
* The cycle goes on an on... until you finally decide that making money online is a ridiculous idea, that all programs are scams, that you have been ripped off and quit altogether.
This is the story of thousands and thousands of persons that start with online business with much enthusiasm but with very little vision and believe the grand lie that you can be a millionaire in a few months by following "the hottest opportunity of the year" or by grabbing the "hidden secrets" of such and such "marketing guru" that will now gracefully give them to you for Free.
There are many good programs online, as well as many scams. Spotting a scam is fairly easy: a one time payment of $ 2.00 to make $ 1'000,000 or so referring only 3 people is clearly impossible (as their own site shows in the "How it works" section). The math is right, but the "business" goal is in no way possible to achieve by any normal person like you and me. Not even by the most seasoned and experienced marketers.
But the proposal has its appeal: Instant Gratification! Yes, they are trying to sell to you the idea that you can be a millionaire fast and without any effort. It is very appealing, is it not? Of course, this sort of proposal has nothing to do with a real business. It has nothing to do with the Five Business Values we mentioned earlier. But it is the kind of "opportunity" that many people follow... and of course fail.
This is an extreme example, but you can translate it to many of the "hot" opportunities out there. Self proclaimed "marketing gurus" or experts are in fact very good at what they do: lead you into one opportunity or program after another... where they make much money but only very few of their followers do.
Some bits of advice:
* Beware of these words and phrases: hot, guru, Free, ebook, one time payment, cracked the code... not always, but usually they mean you will not do any business with that program.
* Read between the lines... read the truth behind the numbers, the claims, the program itself. We have another article on this.
* Beware of school dropouts or pizza delivery guys who claim they know how to make millions and will teach you for nothing.

Our $ 4.00 Monthly fee promotional Standard Membership will "cease to exist" on January 1st, 2010.

If it has been paying faithfully for over 5 years, how much has it paid each year? About $ 6,000.00 per year in the average, to the thousands of members that have got their share... in other words, each member in the average may have got ... one or two dollars per year? Or maybe just cents?
Bottom line: $ 33,404.22 is a very poor payout given the size of the membership and the time they have been paying. It is their own words, not mine.
